Why Sourcing is important

Where was your food sourced?

Why is sourcing so important? This is something that I head more often than not. It is something that I am passionate about, and I feel is something that everyone needs to put on the front burner.

Whether it is food, essential oils, or anything you consume, wouldn’t you like to know where it came from? Most of us know if they have tasted a fruit while on vacation where it grows abundantly and naturally, it tastes a million times better, example Lemons. Of course, we can grow lemons in Canada within a greenhouse, but in Sicily Italy, they taste better. They have the oldest roots, which over time have developed millions of different compounds which influence not only the taste but the health benefits of the plant as well.

How on earth does the health benefits change with different locations? To think about it, our ancestors have been exposed to hundreds of more germs, viruses, and diseases then a 1-year-old has been. Their immune system has had a chance to make the antibodies that it needs to survive, plants do that same thing. They are able to evolve over time and get stronger.

Another thing to consider when you are looking at sourcing is the toxicity of the air around the plants. It can say 100% organic and it can be certified as well, but the most crucial part of growing is the air. Studies have shown that plants that are grown in toxic areas, such as beside industrial plants, or even beside a freeway, the plants are becoming toxic, even without the use of chemicals.

The last thing I would want you to look at is, was that plant or even animal, happy and thriving? When a plant an animal is thriving, they are going to produce the most powerful nutrients. Think about it, how would you feel if you never seen the light of day, ate hard to digest food and was exposed to gasses daily? You would feel like garbage, and the essential nutrients in your body would most likely be depleted. It’s the same when it comes to plants and animals, the more natural and better they thrive, the most nutrients you will get from that source.

I always encourage people to read labels, not only for the ingredients but for the sourcing location. Where was your tea grown? China in the city, or up in the mountains? Where were your essential oils grown? Locally, or where it grows indigenously? Where did your vegetables come from? Greenhouse or organic re-mineralized soil? Where was your salmon fished? Off the coast of Japan, farmed, or in the Atlantic ocean? These are the types of things you should be considering when purchasing.

This blog isn’t too scared the wits out of you, but we need to be more conscious about these things, and what we put in our bodies. This is the reason why most of us have had to resort to taking supplements because we are not getting the nutrients we once did from our food.
